James Joyce (1882-1941) was an Irish novelist, short
story writer, teacher, and a literary critic. He was born and brought up in a
very poor family. He was the eldest child of his family and he had received
education from Jesuit schools. He has left Ireland to pursue the life of a poet
and writer. Writers as illustrious as Virginia Woolf and William Faulkner were
strongly influenced by Joyce’s innovative narrative techniques. Two major
characteristics of his works are:
